Incognito mode tracking makes Google face a lawsuit

Judge Lucy Koh has denied Google’s request to dismiss the class action case as according to him Google “did not notify” users it was still collecting data while Incognito’s privacy mode was active which gave them enough strong ground to move forward with the case and now Google has no choice but to deal with the lawsuit. Google was accused of misleading users, telling them their info was private even as it monitored their habits. Google replied back saying that it reportedly warned that Incognito does not mean ‘invisible’, users agreed to its privacy policy and thus users knew that Google was collecting data. Incognito mode’s limitations are well-known among many enthusiasts that it is there to keep sites out of the local search history and cookies, not to block all potentially identifying traffic. But a lot of the general public isn’t aware of Incognito’s true roles and activities. This lawsuit may also throw questions towards companies who bury important information in their terms of service and also to users who do not read agreements carefully. And hence is still unclear whether or not this lawsuit will succeed. Also Read: The first smartwatch by OnePlus will be revealed on March 23rd
