Google held its 6th Google for India event today at 2 pm. The event was focused on the digitalization of India and to help adapt to the current COVID-19 pandemic by embracing digitalization.

Google for India Digitization Fund
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet announced the Google for India Digitization Fund through which Google will invest ₹75,000 Crore or approximately USD 10 Billion in India for 5-7 years, through the mix of equity investments, partnerships and infrastructural and ecosystem investments.
This investment is to help India in its journey towards digitalization. Pichai also stated, “It’s a reflection of our confidence in the future in India and its digital economy.”
Google CEO Sundar Pichai noted that Google would focus on 4 main aspects crucial for India’s digitization which are
- Enabling affordable access to information in all languages
- Building products and services relevant to India’s unique needs
- Empowering small businesses as they continue to embark for their digitalization
- Leveraging ai for social good in areas like health care, agriculture, education etc.
Moreover, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Law and Justice, Government of India expressed his pleasure for Google investing in India to build a Digital India.
