Major companies are getting affected by the digital ransomware attack due to the increase of reliance on online servers. Many companies such as Garmin, Canon, and CD Projekt Red got hit by a ransomware attack. And now Acer has allegedly suffered one of the biggest ransomware attacks to date with the hackers demanding almost $50 million ransom. As per reports, REvil the ransomware gang announced the attack on Acer on their official data leak site. As per some shared images, the gang was able to acquire documents of the Taiwanese company’s financial statement, bank balance, and bank communications.
In response to this attack, the company stated that it routinely monitors its IT system for any such attacks, and also it is continuing to intensify its cybersecurity defenses. On further inquiries, the company also added “there is an ongoing investigation and for the sake of security, we are unable to comment on details.”
A deal was put forward to the company wherein the gang would offer a 20% discount on the $50 million ransom amount if Acer would have paid the whole amount to them by this past Wednesday. And in return REvil would have provided a decryptor, a vulnerability report, and also would have deleted the stolen files from its directories.
