Wistron on probation for violation of Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct

After the violence at the Wistron plant near Hyderabad, Apple’s contract manufacturing partner Wistron is on probation until all “complete corrective actions” are taken as per Apple.

On Saturday Apple said that according to their preliminary findings of the incident, Wistron’s Narasapura facility had violated Apple’s ‘Supplier Code of Conduct’ and was unable to implement any working hour management process which led to payment delays for some workers in October and November.

On the 12th of December, several employees rioted by destroying property at Wistron’s Narasapura facility due to unpaid salaries since the month of October.

To this, Apple responded in a statement, “As always, our focus is on making sure everyone in our supply chain is protected and treated with dignity and respect. We are very disappointed and taking immediate steps to address these issues. Wistron has taken disciplinary action and is restructuring their recruitment and payroll teams in Narasapura.”

Moreover, Wistron has also acknowledged that some workers at its plant had not been paid properly and ordered the removal of the top executive responsible for handling Wistron’s India business.
