At Google IO 2021, Android 12 was announced. The final product is expected to launch towards the latter part of 2021. It is also expected to arrive at Google’s Pixel phones first, being the:

It is also expected to come to the upcoming Google Pixel 6, when it is launched. It’s confirmed that it will arrive in phones of Oppo, Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, Asus, OnePlus, Sharp, ZTE and TCL.

Android 12 vs Android 11
Android 12 is similar to Android 11 in ways except for some big new features and smoother performance function.
- Google will add a new one handed mode. It will add features that will help you to operate
your device in one hand. It will shift the Search Display bar to the bottom of the display.
There is another feature titled “Silky Home” which is suited for one handed use. - Privacy of the Android 12 is going to be strengthened. Users will hold more control and
transparency and they will also know more information regarding cookies. There will also
be changes regarding how apps export data to prohibit accidental export of receivers,
activities and services. - There are also going to be changes in notifications. Instead of an intermediary service,
you will be taken to the app directly when you click on a notification. There will also be a
button that allows you to snooze notifications that are not very important. It will
reorganise your notifications according to your usage of apps or rearrange again if you
want it to be changed. There is also a “Reduce Bright colours” option while bringing the
DND and Battery saver to the first toggle and moving the mobile data toggle to the
second swipe screen. - It also features a new “Double Tap” option on the back that allows you to do a number of
tasks, like taking screenshots, launching Google Assistant or playing media. - It will also feature Face based autorotate, based on the way where your head position
lies. - Wifi sharing is much easier now. Passwords can be shared with Nearby share.
- Android 12 is made of new Material You UI design with various accent colours,
notification shading and quick settings. Widgets will also get a new look. You get to
choose your own wallpaper shade, dominant or complementary and apply it to your
notification shade, volume controls, lock screen.
Release
As of now, Google hasn’t officially announced the date of release but knowing the history of Android launches (Android 11 on 8th September, 2020 and Android 10 on 3rd September, 2019), it can be expected that it might roll out somewhere around September.
It is expected to be compatible with Google Pixel 3, Nokia, Oppo, Huawei, LG, Samsung, One Plus and other manufacturers.
Downloading
As of now, Android 12 can be downloaded in developer beta. However, since it is still in its initial phases and meant for developers only, it is recommended you download it in tester devices and not your main devices as bugs issues may arise.
