After announcing its plan to create this actual lens nearly 2 months ago, Tamron has formally launched the 70-300 f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD: the “world’s smallest and lightest telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.”

Admittedly, this isn’t essentially the most thrilling lens given its max aperture of f/6.3 on the telephoto end, however, Tamron hopes that the flexibility of this “highly practical lens” will win over fans who need 300mm of reach on a budget.

Optically, the lens is made up of 15 elements in 10 groups, together with a Low Dispersion (LD) element that’s been “precisely arranged to suppress axial chromatic.” This, mixed with Tamron’s Broad-Band Anti-Reflection (BBAR) Coating, guarantees to deliver great resolution from edge-to-edge, particularly at 300mm.

Physically, the lens measures simply 5.8 inches (148mm) in length and weighs 19.2 oz (545g), nevertheless it still provides full weather sealing and options and RXD autofocus motor that may take full benefit of Sony’s much-lauded hybrid autofocus system.

The Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is scheduled to start shipping on October 29th and can cost you $550, though the corporate warns potential consumers that “the release date or product supply schedule can change… due to the current global health crisis.” To study more about the new lens, head over to the Tamron website.
