Space tech incubation centers by ISRO to be set up on four institutional campuses

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) signs up a bilateral memorandum of understanding with four prestigious institutions, in four different regions of India to set up space technology incubation centers (S-TIC) on their campuses. The four institutions chosen are Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (western region), Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal (Central region), and National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (eastern region).

VNIT Nagpur will be the focal center for S-TIC for the western region including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. S-TIC at NIT will cover the areas including Rourkela the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar. Whereas regions including Bhopal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh will be covered by S-TIC at MANIT.

Dr. K. Sivan, Chairman, and secretary of the department of space mentioned that this program initiated to provide opportunities for final year graduate and post-graduate students and research scholars as entrepreneurs. Also, the final research outcome by the students will be translated into a proof-of-concept or prototype through industries within their region. R. Umamaheswaran, scientific secretary, Isro pointed out the need and growth for an interdisciplinary and teamwork approach which can be fulfilled through S-TIC and this will also this will boost up the major space-related activities in this region.
