The CEO of Intel, Pat Gelsinger confirmed that the company is getting ready with its 7nm plans. In 2023 their first chip to use the new, smaller node codenamed as Meteor Lake will make its debut on desktop PCs.
The initial struggle of Intel to get the 7nm and 10nm manufacturing process was heavily publicized. But now the company claims that its usage of EUV or ultraviolet lithography use smoothen the process. Intel also predicted that a big portion of its product line will be based on the 7nm process in 2023.
Meteor Lake is expected to utilize Intel’s heterogeneous chip design, combining high-performance cores with energy-efficient cores to maximize processing power and power efficiency. There were rumors that Intel will rely on a new Redwood Cove architecture that will turn Meteor Lake into a more agnostic node, which means that cores can be manufactured in different labs and then stacked together.
Meteor Lake will support LGA 1700 socket which means the support of DDR5 and PCIe Gen 5 can be expected with the new platform.
