Data breach leaked the private information of millions of prisoners

Telmate, a broadly used jail phone service, left thousands and thousands of inmates’ and their contacts’ information exposed online, according to Comparitech.

The firm is behind an app known as Gettingout, which supplies prisoners an option to make monitored voice/video calls and to send texts to their family members. Due to the character of the service, the exposed information included identifiable info and private correspondences.

Comparitech security researcher Bob Diachenko found an unsecured database in early August containing 11 million data of inmates and their contacts, in addition to 227 million message records.

The prisoners’ data came with their full names, offense, religion, the facility they’re at, their relationship, the medicines they’re taking.

Meanwhile, their contacts’ data included their names, their email, physical and even IP addresses, their phone numbers, and their driver’s license ID particulars.
