A new version of MIUI with pre-installed banned apps comong soon

Recently the Indian Government banned the Mi Browser app, and there has been a controversy about it since mi Browser comes pre-installed on all Xiaomi phones and cannot be uninstalled. Moreover, the cleaner app on Xiaomi devices seems to be using the clean master app which has been banned in India.

Xiaomi has finally responded to the controversy regarding this and clarified a few important things regarding their data security and privacy. This is the what Mi India tweeted

Xiaomi explains three things in the tweet:

  • None of the blocked apps will be available in a build of MIUI for India coming soon. A new build of MIUI was being developed without any of the pre-installed banned apps. The update will be rolled out in a phased manner.
  • MIUI Cleaner app doesn’t use Clean Master; it only uses industrial definitions vital for the app. Anyways, they are removing these definitions from the Mi Cleaner app to reduce confusion. Users can update the Cleaner app to see the changes.
  • All of the Indian user data stays in India. Since 2018, Xiaomi has been storing all the Indian user data inside India and not shared them to anywhere outside India.

We think this is a good step from Xiaomi, but they need to do more by removing ads from MIUI and cleaning MIUI.
